Baby & Me Yoga
Written by Haylee Heyrend
If you’re anything like me, the thought of taking a fragile 3 month old or a babbling 6 month old along to a yoga class can seem daunting. What if my baby cries? What if my baby needs to be fed? What about diaper changes? What if my postpartum body doesn’t move the same as it used to?
The amazing thing about a Baby & Me class is that we are all parents with the exact same worries. Our class is structured to help ease the stresses and concerns that often flood new parents and offers the opportunity to bond with your baby in a relaxing way. This is 60 minutes to reconnect with your body, your mind, and your spirit- all of which have been drastically affected since welcoming your little bundle of joy to the world.
Benefits
No Experience Required
Whether you have any prior yoga experience or not does not matter here. We are happy to meet you exactly where you are.
Healing
We will stretch and strengthen muscles that have been affected by childbirth. Gentle movement and mindful breathing will reach our abdominal muscles, pelvic floor, chest, and shoulders- all the areas that could use a little TLC.
Bonding
When you relax, your baby will relax! This is a great way to build deep connection and strengthen non-verbal communication. We are also here to have fun. Play and eye contact are always encouraged.
Baby Engagement
Age-appropriate guided movements have been proven to increase baby’s coordination. Infant massage can bring sensory awareness to the area and improve digestion. Not to mention, the stimulation combined with the relaxing environment promotes better sleep- something all new parents will get on board with.
Community
Motherhood, especially in these times, can be a lonely experience. Yoga nurtures our emotional wellbeing and can provide tools to find mindfulness in our day to day parenting tasks when we need it most. Sharing a class with other parents can be an amazing way to socialize, gain support, and find a healthy balance between self-care and caring for our babies.
These are only a handful of benefits our class can offer you. If you are a new mother, father, or caregiver of any kind, I encourage you to give Baby & Me Yoga a try.
